STR Music Park Demonstrations chunk 1
Had a great couple of days just playing STR basses all day and talking a bit about them at Music Park Tokyo.....Vid below...bit noisy with all the other booths going on around it, but you can get the spirit and impression of the instruments and performance well enough I think. Hope y'all dig it!!!! NEW LIVE RECORDINGS IMMINENT!New recordings of live performances will be available for DL very soon! I look forward to bringing you audio from recent performances with Pianist Michal Sobkowiak and also with the ZMZ production crew, Yoshiaki Kayano, Akira Kudo, Kayoko Yuasa and co....Watch this space!!!!
Beyond Bass at Parabola.Had a great time at parabola demonstrating the Bacchus TF5 Ash and playing live with Yoshiaki Kayano in a Duo format. The bass held out really well and sounded really great despite the constraints of a small venue and small sound system. Aizawa San from Deviser was kind enough to take a few snaps as below.
Bacchus Demo Shoot UpdateRecently I was invited by the good folks at Deviser Japan to demo some of their wonderful handmade basses.
I had the honor of playing a Woodline DX4 and my favorite, the DX Twentyfour. I also demonstrated a little Ukelele bass under Deviser's SH brand, (a collaboration between their high end bass and guitar brand STR, and their acoustic guitar brand Headway), which was a new but fun experience for me. The videos will be featured in Expos in Asia, and maybe in Europe next year at Music Messe. The video will be ready to view in a couple of weeks from now. Links coming soon! Shoot Pics below. Innobassion Recording New Release!Spent two productive nights in the studio with the band getting horn and drum parts recorded. Vocals and mixing will be done late August with release slated for September or October! Below are some pics of the session.
Live at Sugar Hill!A dream come true! I got asked to play by Yoshiaki (hep-cat) Kayano (trpt) on a bunch of his orginal compositions. He had some absolute class musicians in the line up.
Akira (mad beatz) Kudo on drums, Akane (the genius) Noguchi on keys, Yusuke (bones) Enomoto on trombone, Yuki (sweet tone) Fujise on sax, and the incredible percussion of Shuhei (the monster) Tsushima. I was so blown away and got to play two of my songs "Sign Posts" and my arrangement of "Summertime" that I wrote horn parts for on the train on the way to the gig.....it sounded so big and phhhhattttttt! Heavenly! Thank you everyone, thank you thank you! I love you! woooohooooh! Live at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo!I was privileged to get to play with super musicians Michal Sobwokiak on piano, Christopher Hardy on percussion, Huw Lloyd on Clarinet and Jason Anick on violin.
We played a set of Latin arrangements of French Gypsy Jazz tunes for the Hyatt's 10th anniversary. It was fun, and lots of performers contributed, fire eaters, dancers and actors added to the atmosphere of the party. Innobassion live at Garden.
Wed March 27th at Shimokitazawa Garden. A quiet night but a good opportunity to put the full band through it's paces. Kayoko Yuasa (pictured) joined us that night and we had a good chance to practice some of the more challenging tunes as the audience was scarce.
Wed Feb 20th What The Dickens. Impomptu Jam session in which we took part playing a short set. It was here that Yoshiaki introduced Kayoko Yuasa on trombone as pictured above. Who was absolutely awesome. She stepped right up and played some challenging stuff right off the charts. Great stuff! Kayoko will join us for other performances soon we hope!
We had an excellent time playing with Yoshiaki Kayano on Trumpet. We look forward to playing together many ore times
Kotoshimo yoroshiku ne!
Yoshiaki Kayano (trumpet) and Danny Stewart (Bass/Vocals)
December 18th at Fever: See above vid! Great gig! THanks to all who came.
Sunday Nov 11th Pink Cow. Duality played a few songs toward the end of the night...not our best gig, but a good opportunity to play non the-less! Monday Sept 17th. Q benefit gig. Awesome night, great attendance in aid of our buddy Q who suffered a nasty fall and broken bones.....glad to say he's on the mend Sunday September 9th at The Pink Cow Roppongi. We had a blast despite some P.A system issues...it was fantastic to play with Yoshiaki Kayano on Trumpet. He is not only a great musician with excellent reading and improvisation skills and over all high caliber musicianship, he is also simply a top bloke, or a diamond geezer as we say in Landan! We hope to play more gigs with Mr. Kayano...Yoroshiku! NakaYoshi!
Kousuke (drums) and Yoshiaki (trumpet) sharing good times at the Pink Cow in Roppongi. Be sure to check out Yoshiaki's site and his excellent music at his site. He is also a great Yuke player and guitarist! Tuesday August 28th at FEVER Shindaita.
Duality will play a scorching set of it's harder heavier stuff at Livehouse Fever in Shindaita. We'll start at about 9pm, but there will be plenty of other acts to see from 6:30pm . Touhoku Dai Jishin commemoration charity event. venue: Tokyo Main Dining 2F Shidax karaoke building, shibuya Time: 4pm - 8pm: Plenty of people, 4 or 5 acts including Rakugo, beautiful piano / poetry performances, but on the down side no sound-check time, bad equipment; a bit of a difficult night as far as performing goes, but the cause was a good one and that's what counts I suppose. Our suggestion. If you are going to play there, go ahead of the date and check the equipment if they'll let you....if necessary take your own. Dec 17th 2011.
